Knitting grandma
I’m so happy my grand children are liking hand knitted jumpers again and I I tend to use yarns I know, they’re like old friends ie King Cole, James Brett, Sirdar, Hayfield and this pattern has knitted up well

Pattern King Cole 4970 is a downloadable PDF knitting pattern from King Cole that includes instructions for two classic children's garments: a pullover sweater and a cardigan, both knitted in King Cole Comfort Chunky yarn. Designed to fit chest sizes ranging from 51 cm to 71 cm (20 in to 28 in), this pattern covers a generous range of children's sizes, making it a versatile choice for knitters looking to create cosy, wearable knitwear for younger wearers. The pattern is labelled Easy Knit, though it is listed at an advanced difficulty level in the product attributes, suggesting it rewards knitters who are comfortable with shaping, garment construction, and working from multi-size instructions.
Purchasing this pattern also contributes to a charitable cause, as King Cole donates a portion of proceeds from every pattern sale to the Pink Ribbon Foundation.
The sweater is a classic pullover design worked in King Cole Comfort Chunky yarn. The chunky weight of the yarn means the fabric knits up quickly and produces a wonderfully warm, substantial fabric that is ideal for cooler weather. The straightforward silhouette makes it a practical everyday garment, and the chunky construction gives it a cosy, textured appearance that children and parents alike will appreciate.
The cardigan version of this design shares the same yarn and needle specifications as the sweater but is worked as an open-fronted garment, typically featuring a button band or button-through front opening. Cardigans knitted in chunky yarn are particularly popular for children as they are easy to put on and take off, and the thicker fabric provides excellent warmth without excessive bulk.
Both garments are constructed using flat knitting techniques, meaning the pieces are worked back and forth in rows and then seamed together. Key techniques employed throughout the pattern include:
The pattern makes use of a small but essential set of knitting stitches and stitch patterns:
Both garments are designed to be knitted in King Cole Comfort Chunky, a chunky weight yarn.
